What does the color BLUE symbolize in my artwork?

Blue theme fused glass tiles glued to a printed aluminum panel

“Blue is the only color which maintains its own character in all its tones it will always stay blue; whereas yellow is blackened in its shades, and fades away when lightened; red when darkened becomes brown, and diluted with white is no longer red, but another color – pink.” – Raoul Dufy

“Blue is the male principle, stern and spiritual. Yellow the female principle, gentle, cheerful and sensual. Red is matter, brutal and heavy and always the color which must be fought and vanquished by the other two.“ – Franz Marc

In nature, the blue color is continuous and endless as the sky is ever-present; it is also the color of all bodies of water.  This series of fused glass tiles adhered to a plexiglass mosaic panel is about a journey through an ocean or a trip through the clouds.  Blue is a cool color that creates a sense of space, and in my mind, it’s a soothing color, reducing stress and fear and slows the heart rate.

In religions, the color blue is given to the Gods and powers attributed to the sky.  Thus, blue often symbolizes inspiration, spirituality, harmony, serenity, and flow.

Some of the most transcendent blue scenery occurs at Lake Hovsgol in Mongolia, Colombia Glacier in Alaska, and Lifeguard Station 56 in Los Angeles.
